Grand Opening of Jericho Residence Hall

On September 26, a grand opening ribbon-cutting ceremony was held for a new residence hall at 120 Jericho Turnpike in Jericho, N.Y., setting new standards for student residence halls on Long Island. The project represents a significant investment in the future of the area’s educational infrastructure.

“Our Jericho Residence Hall is specifically designed to surround our students with the best environments that balance their academic, social, and personal wellness,” says New York Tech President Henry C. Foley, Ph.D.

“One of New York Tech’s top priorities is to provide the best student experiences possible, and these new facilities are another example of how we strive to support them both inside and outside the classroom.” – President Henry C. Foley

Upgrades to New York City Campus

During summer 2024, the New York City campus underwent several upgrades that will impact students’ academic opportunities as well as their quality of life.

In the Edward Guiliano Global Center located at 1855 Broadway, the biology and chemistry labs on the ninth floor were gutted and fully renovated, adding about 40 percent more usable space and increasing student capacity. Labs were rearranged and outfitted with new fume hoods, mechanical systems, equipment such as spectrometers and a water polisher, lab benches, octagonal tables for group work, and more.

Also at 1855 Broadway, a computer room on the 10th floor was converted into a robotics lab for students, staff, and faculty, complete with two new robotic arms for 3-D modeling and printing. Work was also done on the ground floor to connect 1855 to the Student Activities Building at 1849 Broadway so that students don’t have to go outside to move between the buildings. Two ADA-compliant bathrooms were also added on the ground floor near the Metro Café in 1849 Broadway.

The newly renovated OMM Lab

Renovation and Reopening of OMM Lab

On December 6, the Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) Lab at the College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYITCOM) was reopened to the community after a full renovation. The lab now features electric adjustable tables, natural lighting, state-of-the-art HD monitors, and iPad-driven learning stations. It is further equipped with modern visual recording capabilities that allow hands-on sessions to be stored and streamed for 24/7 access.

“We worked closely with the different faculty groups who use the OMM Lab to make it the best teaching and learning space possible for our community,” says Raquel Romanick, associate dean for operations at NYITCOM. “The training students learn in the lab is very visual, so we wanted to make sure the space was as interactive as possible, from glass-topped tables so students can see hand positioning even from below, a display with live annotation capabilities, and 10 ceiling-mounted cameras so students both in-person and online can see the room from all angles.”

The OMM Lab offers maximum flexibility so it can accommodate future NYITCOM needs, such as continuing education and workshops for local resident physicians and other audiences.

NYITCOM operates three Community Free Clinics in Central Islip, Harlem, and Old Westbury.

The TD Charitable Foundation Supports Community Free Clinics

As part of its commitment to improving access to healthcare, NYITCOM operates three Community Free Clinics in Central Islip, Harlem, and Old Westbury. These clinics provide services to patients 18 and older with or without insurance and regardless of immigration status.

These clinics can offer preventative and general health checks, in-house lab tests, and more, thanks to generous support from the TD Charitable Foundation, including a $25,000 grant in 2024. TD Charitable Foundation also gave a $25,000 grant to the Community Free Clinics in 2023, demonstrating their continued support of the facilities’ mission to offer access to healthcare for individuals who may not otherwise have been able to receive the care they need.

The new fMRI machine is capable of measuring not only structure but also functional changes across different systems of the body.

A New fMRI: The Biomedical Research, Innovation, and Imaging Center (BRIIC)

This past November, the Biomedical Research, Innovation, and Imaging Center received a central piece of technology: its new functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) machine, capable of measuring not only structure but also functional changes across different systems of the body. The fMRI is just one of the many incredible imaging technologies that call this new facility its home.

The new 20,000-square-foot BRIIC will provide researchers across a variety of disciplines and expertise with new opportunities to advance human health and discover potential treatments for pressing health conditions and biomedical challenges. This facility will also provide students with the ability to participate in groundbreaking research.

The BRIIC is anticipated to expand New York Tech’s research footprint, supporting our endeavors toward becoming a Carnegie-classified Research 2 university by 2028.
