Fostering a Partnership with Enzo Biochem

From a pipeline of internships to on-campus COVID-19 testing, Enzo Biochem and New York Tech have been partners for more than five years. Recently, the relationship has been furthered thanks to mutual interest in relevant research being conducted on campus.

Established in 1976, Enzo Biochem is a global leader in labeling and detection technologies across genomic, protein, cell, and tissue analysis platforms. In 2024, Enzo donated $100,000 worth of reagents, lab materials, and microplate equipment for use by New York Tech’s Department of Biological and Chemical Sciences.

“New York Tech has been great about inviting people from Enzo to come to campus to look for crossover points,” says Kara Cannon, chief executive officer at Enzo. “We toured labs and started to make connections with faculty, and some of that research benefits several of Enzo’s products and platforms. We’re a small company, and it can be challenging to give big dollar donations, but we found a great way to support New York Tech with our own products and equipment that can help further these faculty members’ work and hopefully our own innovations.”

In-kind donations further institutional goals and improve the student experience.

Meadows Medical Donates $30K of Supplies

Located in Quogue, N.Y., Meadows Medical Supply donated educational medical supplies to New York Tech’s School of Health Professions. Valued at $30,000, these items included needles, catheters, and IV pumps for students to use to gain hands-on training for their degrees.

The departments of nursing, physician assistant studies, physical therapy, and occupational therapy were given full access to all the donated supplies. They were largely used to help students advance their knowledge of how to use these items in a clinical capacity.

“The donation of medical supplies allows us to provide hands-on experience with the latest tools, giving our students an edge in their education and preparing them for challenges they will face in their careers. This will allow us to continue delivering high-quality training and education to the healthcare leaders of tomorrow.”

Five Years of New Stethoscopes for Students: Rob Brown, Jr. (B.S. ’02)

A graduate of New York Tech’s first class of the physician assistant (PA) studies program, Rob Brown, Jr. doubled down on his commitment in 2023 to give free stethoscopes to students. In 2024, Brown committed to providing the funds to buy stethoscopes for PA students beginning their clinical year for five more years.

A former lieutenant with the New York City Fire Department, Brown is dedicated to philanthropy beyond New York Tech; in 2002, he founded New York Firefighters Heart and Lung Institute, a medical center offering the best healthcare experience, including cardiac and pulmonary testing, for firefighters. He also founded the New York Firefighters Heart Foundation, which provides education and advanced medical screenings to help reduce line-of-duty deaths in the fire service across the nation and the world.

“I never thought I’d have more than a thousand dollars to give away,” says Brown, whose self-funded foundation donates more than $150,000 annually to support the families of terminally ill and fallen firefighters. “I hope New York Tech students will give when they become alumni so they can pay it forward. There’s a responsibility for people to donate money to good causes when they’re able—that’s what makes the world go round.”

FIGS Scrubs for NYITCOM-Arkansas: Reuben Horace (D.O. ’22)

NYITCOM-Arkansas alumnus Reuben Horace donated 107 sets of FIGS scrubs to the Class of 2026 enrolled at his alma mater.

“I feel I was lucky to get into medical school, and I want to give something back to New York Tech for that opportunity,” says Horace, who works in emergency medicine at Duke University. “This is a relatively small thing, but it’s a start, and FIGS is a great brand to be able to share with these students. I owe NYITCOM-Arkansas a lot for believing in me, and I hope this is the start of a longer relationship. I’d love to be able to do something more long-term in the future, like a scholarship.”
